Martin Eckstein joins CFEL

Martin Eckstein joins the Max Planck Research Department for Structural Dynamics at CFEL as a Group Leader for the 'Theory of correlated systems out of equilibrium'.

On October 3rd, 2011, Martin Eckstein joined the Max Planck Department for Structural Dynamics (MPSD) at CFEL as a Max Planck Research Group leader. He will set up and lead a group working on the "Theory of correlated systems out of equilibrium". Martin Eckstein is a theoretical physicist who has worked mainly in the field of strongly correlated solids.

Martin received his PhD from the University of Augsburg in 2009. His dissertation on "Nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory" under the supervision of Dieter Vollhardt was sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation, and awarded the Prof. Erich Krautz price in 2010. In 2009, Martin joined Philipp Werner's group at the ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked on the development of numerical tools for simulating the real-time evolution of quantum impurity systems.

At CFEL, Martin's research group will further develop the numerical methods in the field, in order to understand cooperative effects in the nonequilibrium dynamics of interacting many-particle systems from a microscopic perspective.
