Nils Huse joins CFEL

Nils Huse joins the Max Planck Research Department for Structural Dynamics at CFEL as Group Leader for the “Ultrafast Molecular Dynamics” group.

On July 1, 2011, Nils Huse joined the Max Planck Department for Structural Dynamics (MPSD) at CFEL as a Max Planck Research Group leader. He will set up and lead the “Ultrafast Molecular Dynamics” Group at MPSD.

Nils Huse is an experimental physicist with a focus on condensed-phase molecular dynamics. He received his PhD in 2006 from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany after working on molecular coupling mechanisms of hydrogen-bonded systems in Thomas Elsässer's group at the Max Born Institute. His dissertation earned him the Lise Meiter Award and led to the Klaus Tschira Award 2006.

During his postdoctoral appointment at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Nils switched to the field of Ultrafast X-ray Science. He pioneered ultrafast soft X-ray spectroscopy of solvated systems in Robert Schoenlein's group where he continued to work as a project scientist in the Ultrafast X-ray Science Laboratory program.

Nils’s research group at CFEL will focus on the study of chemical reactions dynamics using ultrafast methods from THz waves to hard X-rays, and the development of new ultrafast tools to interrogate molecular systems.
