Great honor for scientist Prof. Henry Chapman (Universität Hamburg, DESY): The highly valued scientist at CFEL has been invited to the Matthiae-Mahl on 12 February in the large ballroom of Hamburg’s City Hall. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, and Chancellor Angela Merkel are expected as guests of honor.

Dating back to 1356, the Matthiae-Mahl is the oldest banquet in the world beeing celebrated to this very day. Traditionally the First Mayor, who is also hosting the meal, will speak to the guests plus a foreign and a German guest of honor. This year’s guest list includes 400 people from politics, diplomatic service, business, science, media, and culture.
