Celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Mildred Dresselhaus Program

What does it take to build a scientific career? What skills do I need beyond scientific excellence? To mark the tenth anniversary of the Mildred Dresselhaus Guest Professorship Program, the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter" invites you to an anniversary celebration with lectures and award ceremony from 14 to 15 March 2024, taking place in the CFEL building.

14 award winners are expected to attend the anniversary celebration. They will present their research and speak on career topics.

“It was an honor to get the Mildred Dresselhaus Award; she was an excellent scientist and an inspiring role model. This well-recognized Award has been a great motivation in my scientific career, which partially contributed to my promotion to the full University Professorship and my professional recognition within the field of atomic and molecular physics,” says Rosario González-Férez from the University of Granada, Spain. She came to Hamburg in 2013 as the first Mildred Dresselhaus Award winner to conduct research in the Cluster.

"We are very proud of the Mildred Dresselhaus visiting professorship program, it allows us to host excellent female Professors and role models. For the tenth anniversary, almost all the awarded Professors will come to Hamburg, and I am really looking forward to attending their lectures, that will both cover the topics of science and diversity", says CUI spokesperson Francesca Calegari, professor at Universität Hamburg and lead scientist at CFEL @ DESY.

To date, 20 highly recognized or up-and-coming international female researchers have received awards and most of them have also come to the Bahrenfeld campus for a longer research stay. They benefited from the excellent research opportunities on site, developed new collaborations, and also acted as inspiring role models for the local community. Many of them will be there in March to exchange ideas, give talks on their research and career topics and to attend the presentation of the current prize to Prof. Lin X. Chen from Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University, USA, and Dr. Liuyan Zhao, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan, USA.
